The original story appeared in USA TODAY and the blog site Gather picked the story up. Here is my quotes and Gather’s comments on them:

University of Mississippi School of Journalism’s Magazine Innovation Center director, Samir Husni, said, “After years of providing the American masses with doses after doses of celebrities and reality TV shows, television has managed to plant the seeds of addiction to celebrities and reality TV stars into the American psyche and culture.”

Sadly, Husni just said a mouthful. That really speaks volumes about the priorities of Americans. Perhaps E!’s president was right when she said the Kardashians are what “people aspire to be.” For those who thought Kardashian’s wedding was over-the-top, they’re realizing her divorce may even be crazier.
